Game Design

Starting my Master's in Video Games with Focus on Engineering I never knew that I would like game design this much. As we started creating prototypes for games in a span of every two weeks, I realized I was getting better at suggesting various game rules and features. I kept on going and started working as a Game Engineer at GApp lab. It gave me the opportunity to freely design gameplay features and User Interface. Following are the reasons why I find game design most interesting and important.

  • Understandability

    • Every player expects to understand the game really well in order to play it. This is something I love to work on. I like to create and design tutorials for the players.

  • User Experience

    • When I created prototypes with my teams of 5 people in the first semester of grad school, I often used to stand behind the player and silently observe their way of playing the game. I observe and analyze if the player follows the line of playing the game that designers intended them to follow. If not then how much is the difference?

  • Being Noob as a Developer

    • A lot of the times it is hard for a developer to be a noob at their own game. And I believe being a noob is very important in order to test a game. This is something I am naturally good at. I am slow at learning any game at the beginning and this makes it very easy for me to test a game even as a developer.

  • Drawing graphs and level maps

    • I prefer to draw maps and level flows for a level. I believe graphical information is faster to process as a human compared to textual information. I enjoy drawing maps and concept charts with pencil on paper.
